How to make stress balls
The materials you will require for making a stress ball are as follows:
- A small, thick round party balloon.
- An empty 2 litre plastic bottle
- Cornstarch or (sieved) flour or fine sand - for filling up the balloon.
Making the homemade stress ball
- Put your corn starch, flour or fine sand into the empty plastic bottle.
- Stand the bottle on it's base and slide the balloon over the top rim of the bottle. Don't inflate the balloon.
- Slowly squeeze the plastic bottle to partly fill up the balloon with air. It should be around 5-inches in diameter.
- Keep squeezing the bottle and turn it upside down. Then shake the corn starch/flour/sand down into the balloon.
- Slowly release the plastic bottle and ease the excess filling material back out of the balloon, along with any excess air.
- Place your fingers as close to level of the filling substance as possible and tie the balloon off. Either with thread or just try the balloon itself.
And that's basically that, you've made a homemade stress ball.
Alternate method for making a stress ball
- Get four party balloons and cut the ends off three of them.
- You need to make a fairly wide hole as they need to fit over a 5 inch diameter balloon.
- Take one of the cut balloons and use the funnel to fill it with your chosen filling.
- Then take another cut balloon and slide it over the open end of the filled balloon
- Repeat with the third cut balloon to securely trap the filling.
- Finally place the uncut balloon around the whole thing and tie it off to keep everything in place.
To use a stress ball simply squeeze it in the palm of your hand and then relax your hand repeatedly. Also, breathe deeply while sqeezing as this helps you relax. This repeated action progressively releases tension in your muscles. The ball also helps take your mind off issues that may be causing you mental stress.
